A new group of designer drugs commonly known as “bath salts” have resulted in a rash emergency room visits in at least one county. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says the drugs can cause unpredictable symptoms. “It really does different things to different people,” said Fitzgerald. Effects of the synthetic stimulant can include high blood pressure, increased heart rate, chest pain, and an increased risk of suicide. Fitzgerald said the drug, which can be snorted or smoked, seems to be increasingly popular with young people: at least six have been hospitalized so far this year after taking the drug.
