Former Governor Tommy Thompson is said to be facing “long, but not impossible odds” if he does decide to run for President in two year. Thompson is forming a political action committee as the first step in a possible White House bid. UW political science professor David Canon says Thompson's biggest obstacles are lack of national name recognition and the ability to raise enough money. Canon says it's clearly a long shot. However he notes previous presidential candidates, such as Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, were able to come in as a dark horse and still have success.
