One of the Republicans in the race for Wisconsin’s open U.S. Senate seat says he has a plan to reform health care. Former Governor Tommy Thompson is offering a series of proposals he says will fix the troubled system. While his opponents continue to talk about repealing “Obamacare,” which he supports, Thompson says they are not saying what they will do to fix a system that’s still be broken.
Thompson says he would provide a tax credit for people who buy insurance of $2,500 for individuals and $5,000 for families. He says that would help encourage the 50 million uninsured people in America to go out and purchase coverage. While the move could cost the federal government massive tax losses, he says it would help reduce health care costs because hospitals would no longer have to cover the cost of care for the uninsured.

The former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary says he also wants to provide wellness incentives, speed up the approval process for new drugs, and offer quality incentives for hospitals.
The former governor faces three other Republicans in a Senate primary in August – former Congressman Mark Neumann, businessman Eric Hovde, and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald.
