A good government watchdog says officials got to head of the line for buying Super Bowl tickets. Governor Scott Walker and other state and local elected officials are headed to the Super Bowl in Dallas, where the Green Bay Packers face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. So what’s wrong with that? “To offer tickets to elected officials I think raises in peoples minds about why that’s the case,” said Jay Heck with Common Cause in Wisconsin. Walker, Commerce Secretary Paul Jadin, and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt are among those officials who bought tickets out of the Packers allotment from the NFL. “It’s true that in this case these public officials did pay the Packers the face value for the tickets, but any normal citizen had they wanted to but these tickets, would have had to go to a broker, and the cost is at least double or triple.” Heck said nothing illegal was done, since the politicians paid for their tickets, but he suggests the team should have held a lottery for a chance to buy them.
