Time is running out for Wisconsin flood victims to apply for federal help.

Residents of the 30 counties that were declared disaster areas after flooding earlier this summer have until September 15th to apply for federal aid money. FEMA spokesman Doug Ward says that deadline must be met to be eligible for grant money or Small Business Administration loans.

Ward says it's important to apply for aid, even if you think insurance will cover your claim. He says many people may put off registering because they think insurance will pay out, but when a claim is denied after the deadline they are left with little recourse.

Ward says you can register online or by calling 1-800-621-3362.

The eligible counties are Adams, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Monroe, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago.

Nearly 40,000 Wisconsin residents have applied for federal aid so far.
