Crime doesn't pay, but helping to catch a criminal does sometimes.
A $1,000 reward has been paid out to a man who lead police directly to a suspect in a string of Dane County bank robberies. The recipient noticed one of those robberies in progress at a bank in Middleton and followed him away from the location. The tipster then called police and gave them directions to where the robber was staying.
Eric Skrum with the Wisconsin Bankers Association says the tip helped put a criminal behind bars. Still, they aren't encouraging everyone to do the same. Skrum says safety is their top concern and people should never get into a dangerous situation. At the very least, they should call police and relay any information or details they may have witnessed.
The suspect was arrested, and is currently facing charges related to at least six bank robberies. The reward recipient has asked to remain anonymous.
