Wisconsin banks issue a holiday alert. The Wisconsin Bankers Association once again reminds us to be very suspicious of any calls or e-mails requesting personal information. "No bank . . . is going to request a customer to verify personal information, such as pins, bank account numbers, Social Security numbers or anything like that over the phone," warns spokesman Eric Skrum You can protect yourself from this scam by doing three things: stop, think, and contact your bank at the number on your statement or in the phone book.
Skrum says scammers pull this sort of thing on holidays, when banks are closed, and people are distracted and less likely to think things through. A similar fraud was perpetrated on Manitowoc County residents over the Thanksgiving holiday.
