Tens of thousands of Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiasts arrive in the Northwoods for the annual Fall Ride to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Harley-Davidson has been a primary donor to MDA for many years.
Dawn Ver Haagh is Executive Director at the Green Bay MDA chapter. She says while it’s fun for the participants, the ride has a real impact on MDA, especially considering the number of people who visit the area and support the MDA by purchasing merchandise.
This is the 33rd Fall Ride. Ver Haage says the money raised in events like the annual telethon and the Fall Ride are making a difference. She says there has been more progress in the last five years than had been made in the last five decades. She says the end goal is to find treatments and cures for muscle diseases, in hopes of giving families “another day, another month, or another year with their loved one.”
The Fall Ride has millions of dollars economic impact all the way from central Wisconsin through the Northwoods as food, lodging, and recreational establishments find more business for the weekend.
The ride and events run through the weekend centered on Sara Park in Tomahawk.
Harley-Davidson has a production facility in Tomahawk.
