A tornado swept a path across Kenosha and Racine counties Tuesday morning. The tornado’s path apparently began in Kenosha county, moved north east through Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant in Racine County before dissipating in the City of Racine. Mark Gehrig of the NWS Office in Sullivan said the tornado was “at least an EF1” which would mean wind speeds of 86 to 110 miles per hour.

South Shore Fire Chief Bill Bouma said at least two holes, one of which was at least 300 square feet, were torn in the roof of the Case tractor plant on Highway 11 in Sturtevant. Racine County Board Supervisor Bob Miller was in a home owned by his parents near the plant when the tornado touched down. “I looked out and saw a very large swirl,” said Miller. “As quickly as it came it was gone, and then I looked up and the barn was flattened.” A six car garage was destroyed in Kenosha County.
