Governor Jim Doyle says Wisconsin is ready to use money from a federal stimulus bill to help expand high speed rail.
Appearing before the U.S. House Transportation Committee Thursday, Governor Doyle stressed the importance of using part of a federal economic recovery package to develop new rail systems.
Doyle says passenger rail is the "missing link" of our national transportation policy, and it's a critical time to recognize the importance of expanding passenger rail service. He says states want to invest in rail, and federal help could help to usher in a new era of service.
Doyle also addressed the overall federal economic recovery act, saying Wisconsin is ready to work with Congress to make sure any money is put to use as effectively as possible. The Governor says projects that create jobs quickly remain a top priority.
