The latest Marquette University Law School Poll shows Donald Trump continuing to lead the Republican field among Wisconsin primary voters.
Poll director Charles Franklin says the results showed Trump at 30 percent, with a double-digit lead over Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Texas Senator Ted Cruz in second and third place, respectively. “The top three are just as clear here in the data, as they are in national and other state data,” Franklin said, while unveiling the results Thursday afternoon on the Marquette campus.
On the Democratic side, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders held just a single digit lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, at 44 and 43 percent respectively. Franklin described that race, which has seen Sanders slowly catching up to Clinton since last fall, a “toss up” heading in to the state’s April 5th presidential preference primary.
Franklin noted that there’s still more than a month to go until Wisconsin voters head to the polls, and there are still questions about whether either race will still be competitive at that point. “We still have no idea whether we’re going to be a really important primary date for both parties, one party but not the other, or whether both will have packed up and moved on,” he said.
The poll of 802 registered voters was conducted February 18-21. It has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.5-percent.
