A pair of Milwaukee day care operators are facing fraud charges. 40-year-old Kimberly Brown of Glendale and 24-year-old Marcus Glass of Milwaukee are accused of defrauding the Wisconsin Shares subsidy program out of over 260-thousand-dollars.

The charges are the result of a Department of Justice investigation into fraud surrounding the program, which pays day care centers to watch children from poor families.

Brown and Glass operated the now-closed Kid’s Place day care center in Milwaukee. According to the criminal complaint, they billed Wisconsin Shares for children who weren’t actually in their care and also over-billed the state for children they were watching. They’re also accused of paying mothers to keep their children enrolled at the center, even though the kids no longer attended.

Brown and Glass are each charged with a single felony count of theft by fraud.
