The Senate will vote on a warrantless wiretapping bill, despite warnings from Wisconsin's Russ Feingold. The Senate voted overwhelmingly in support of a renewal of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), despite Feingold's statement that the version to be considered does not do enough to protect privacy, or to hold telecommunications companies liable for violations of the law. The Wisconsin Democrat warns thousands of Americans could be swept up in a dragnet, merely by calling or e-mailing friends or relatives overseas. Alabama Republican, Senator Jeff Sessions, said Feingold was overreacting. The Senate voted 76-10 to proceed with the Senate Intelligence Committee's version of the FISA Amendments Act. Feingold favored a version passed by the Judiciary Committee.
