Despite a national recession, Wisconsin continued to see its unemployment rate drop last month.

Statewide job figures from the Department of Workforce Development show Wisconsin's unemployment rate at 8.7-percent for May. That's down 0.1-percent from April and 0.7-percent since March.

DWD Labor Analyst Eric Grosso says the overall job market remains in a state of deterioration, but there are some glimmers of growth in particular areas. He says the largest gains last month were in jobs related to the "warm weather economy," such as construction and tourism.

Wisconsin remains just below the national unemployment rate of 9.1-percent. However, the current rate is still nearly double the 4.2-percent rate of May 2008.
