The retiring and rehiring of another UW-Green Bay official is renewing the concerns of a state lawmaker and accusations of “double dipping.”

UW-Green Bay Associate Provost Tim Sewall retired from the campus in March, and then returned a month later to his old job with a $110,000 a year salary and his retirement pay. State Representative Steve Nass (R-Whitewater) worries the move is another abuse of the state retirement system by the university and he’s renewing calls for an investigation.

UW-Green Bay Provost Julia Wallace says the university followed state rules with the Sewall rehiring. Even if it’s legal, Nass argues the move is not morally right.

Wallace denies there was any deal in place to bring Sewall back after his retirement. Nass has doubts about those claims though, citing reports that Sewall kept his e-mail address and only put up an “out of office” message when he retired and also had contact with other staff about his return.

This is the second time this year the UW-Green Bay has drawn fire over hiring a retired official back at their old pay just a month after they left the university.
