The UW-Platteville plans to have buildings damaged by a tornado fully repaired in less than two months.
A tornado ripped through the Platteville campus last week, causing significant damage to three residence halls and the engineering building. Chancellor Dennis Shields says they have developed an 80 day plan, and they are hoping for the best case scenario of getting repairs made by mid-August.
Insurance will cover most of the damage done to the campus, which Grant County Emergency Government Director Steve Brown says may top $10 million.
University officials also say the artificial surface at Pioneer Stadium will have to be replaced, along with seating areas and three light poles. Athletic Director Mark Molesworth says coaches are confident the stadium can be fixed by September 15th, when the Pioneers play their first football game.
About 200 summer school students and hundreds more summer camp participants were on campus when the tornado hit. Shields credited dorm staffers and rescuers for keeping them safe, noting that nobody got anything worse than bumps and bruises.
