In the market for an air conditioner, chairs, or a dresser? How about a set of laboratory glass? There's a new home, for a favorite destination of bargain hunters. SWAP stands for Surplus With A Purpose: collecting, processing , and redistributing surplus property from UW-Madison and state agencies, and providing that same low cost, quality surplus equipment and supplies to those same agencies, and the public.
Carrie Jensen is Marketing Supervisor for UW's Materials Distribution Services and SWAP. She notes SWAP has long been a favorite stop for bargain hunters from around the state.
In addition to keeping a thousand tons of materials out of the landfill each year, SWAP sales to the public generated about a million dollars in each of the last two fiscal years. Those bargain hunters will now have a bigger selection, as SWAP and MDS move open a new facility in Verona , after spending years near the Madison airport.
