A new report shows efforts to increase the graduation rate on UW campuses is paying off.

The annual Accountability Report from the UW System shows over 33,000 degrees were awarded and nearly 178,000 students were enrolled at campuses across the state in 2009. System Spokesman Dave Giroux says the numbers are in line with goals to increase numbers in both of those areas over the next 15 years.

However, Giroux says the study also shows some problems, such as a continued racial achievement gap. He says White and Asian students are graduating in strong numbers within six years of entering the system, but Latino and African-American students continue to fall behind. Giroux says a System-wide study is currently being done to see how UW campuses can help improve minority graduation rates.

The report will be presented to the UW Board of Regents later this week.
