UW-Whitewater officials say two hate crime style incidents this week are highly unusual for the campus. Campus police are investigating an incident that occurred Monday overnight, in which three African-American students had their car tires slashed and “KKK” spray painted on their vehicles.

The night before a female student reported a man shoved her while making a slur about her perceived sexual orientation.

UW-Whitewater Spokeswoman Sara Kuhl says these events do not represent the majority of the campus community, “These are choices that some individuals have made to behave in a way that we find to be totally unacceptable.”

Kuhl says campus public safety along with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department have developed a composite sketch of one of the perpetrators in the Sunday battery incident.

In September a woman wearing a “legalize gay” T-shirt told police she was verbally and physically attacked while walking off campus.
