State sales of new cars and trucks were strong last year, increasing by 9.4 percent. “I think finally you’re starting to see that consumer confidence back,” said Bill Sepic, President of the Wisconsin Automobile and Truck Dealers Association.
“A lot of the fleet that’s out there has been aging,” said Sepic. “There’s been pent up demand and we’ve seen steady increases really over the last five years.”
Sepic expects similar numbers for 2014. “There’s always a number of external factors that weigh on purchase decisions. Right now where gas prices are hovering, I think people feel real comfortable.”
Trucks sold strongly in 2013. “In December, truck sales increased ten percent over last year,” said Sepic. State residents bought almost 200,000 new vehicles last year, with trucks and SUVs the most popular.
