Wisconsin Republican Delegate Scott Southworth is an Iraq War veteran, having served there from 2003 to 04. In addition to commanding his military police unit, he volunteered at a Mother Teresa orphanage where he met a special boy with cerebral palsy who was discovered living on the street.

The child found a place in Southworth's heart, so the soldier wanted to find a place for him in America. He petitioned the Iraqi government to allow the child to go to the US for medical care.  After getting through quite a bit of "red tape" he returned to Baghdad in 05' as a civilian for the boy, eventually adopting him.

Southworth is the Veterans for McCain State Co-chair and has long followed the Arizona Senator's career. However, it wasn't until the week of the RNC that he found out the McCain family had also adopted a special needs child from a Bangladesh Mother Teresa orphanage years ago.

As the District Attorney of Juneau County, Southworth understands how a public official wants to shield their children from the political game. He calls it "very difficult" to do so. But the veteran chalks the McCain family's decision to keep the adoption story private as another example of the "honor and integrity he (McCain) displays on a daily basis."
