Just days after she was found stabbed 19 times, the parents of a 12-year-old Waukesha girl say she is up and able to move around.

In a statement posted on a fundraising website late Wednesday, the girl’s parents say she has been able to walk the halls of the hospital with her dad and has been out of bed watching TV in her wheelchair. Hospital officials on Wednesday upgraded the girl’s condition to fair from stable but critical.

The girl’s family says they are thankful for prayers and support, and asked that people honor the victim’s anonymity and privacy as she continues to heal. “As parents of this little girl, we are overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we’ve been receiving from our family, friends and community. Our little girl is a fighter and is making strides of improvement each and every day. We appreciate your patience, love and support as we too are stunned and saddened by this tragedy.”

The girl was found near a wooded area in Waukesha Saturday with multiple stab wounds after police say she was attacked by two classmates, also 12-year-old girls. Both girls have been charged as adults with attempted murder.
