After selecting Georgia kicker Blair Walsh in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings released 16-year veteran kicker Ryan Longwell.

The 37-year old Longwell had three seasons and $7-million left on a four-year contract he signed last summer.  That deal included a $3.5-million signing bonus.  Longwell was scheduled to make $1.75-million in salary this coming season.

Longwell played the first 9-years of his career with the Packers.  He currently ranks 13th in NFL history and 4th among active kickers with 1,687 points.
