It was “vintage” Tommy Thompson at the Republican National Convention in the Twin Cities Wednesday. The former governor, GOP presidential hopeful and Bush administration cabinet member had a “party hearty” message for the Badger state delegation. “I want you drink the beer, stay out as late as you can tonight and tomorrow night, because on Friday I want you to sober up, go on home, and make this a Republican year.” Thompson, with a scar on his nose from recent skin cancer surgery, said he and other Republicans were feeling a bit down about the party's chances earlier, but that having Alaska Governor Sarah Palin on the ticket brings an excitement he believes will carry over to a win in November.
