From the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsinites have identified the sites that have the biggest "wow" factor in the state. Travel writer Gary Knowles helped organize a statewide online vote earlier this spring, which helped to name the " 21 Wonders of Wisconsin ." The places honored include man made and natural wonders across the state.
Knowles says the process started with over 600 nominations, resulting from a column he'd written on the topic. Using the help of other writers and First Lady Jessica Doyle, that list was narrowed down to 244 nominees in 21 categories. The nominees were then listed online and nearly 6,000 votes were cast on the top sites between March and April.
Knowles says the winners reflect the diverse beauty of the state.
