Wal-Mart is closing four stores in Wisconsin — all in the Milwaukee area — among 154 stores the world’s largest retailer is closing in the U.S.

The four locations are:

– 5825 West Hope Avenue, Milwaukee
– 3850 North 124th Street, Wauwatosa
– N88 W15559 Main Street, Menomonee falls
– S14 W22605 Coral Drive, Waukesha

The store closings come after Wal-Mart began a review of store operations in October, with an emphasis on the importance of keeping up with online competition.

“Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future. It’s important to remember that we’ll open well more than 300 stores around the world next year. So we are committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it,” Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. President and CEO Doug McMillon said.
