A candidate for governor wants President Obama to reverse the decision of a federal agency which could cost Wisconsin jobs. Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker says radical environmental policies advocated by the Obama administration have led the Export/Import bank to deny loan guarantees for a coal-fired power plant that was to be built with coal mining equipment from Bucyrus, headquartered in South Milwaukee.

The Walker campaign is paying for a full page ad in the Racine Journal Times, says Walker, to get the president’s attention during his visit to the city. Walker says Wisconsin can’t afford to lose any more jobs. Bucyrus officials say the decision to deny financing of mining equipment for the coal-fired power plant in India could cost Wisconsin 300 jobs. Walker’s not the only candidate urging the bank to reconsider: Democrats Tom Barrett, the Milwaukee mayor also running for governor, and Russ Feingold, seeking reelection to the U.S. Senate, have made similar requests.
