The biggest date on the state Senate recall calendar is now less than a week away. Voters will decide the fate of six Republican lawmakers, and Governor Scott Walker is talking about their chances. “The key is, if the truth gets out, I have every confidence that we’re going to see individuals who stood up and took courageous votes be affirmed and continue to stay in office,” Walker said in Green Bay on Tuesday.
Walker said the steps that Republicans took to balance the budget and create jobs are working. “We’re not looking at massive layoffs. We’re protecting middle class jobs, we’re protecting middle class taxpayers.” The election is next Tuesday. Democrats need to pick up three seats in order to take over the majority in the Senate. Walker said even if that does happen, he believes he can keep working to create jobs.
Walker noted campaigns and third-party groups are spending plenty of money. “You’re talking about in three months time, seeing expenditures of anywhere from 25 to 30 million dollars. That’s a lot of money coming in from outside groups. A lot of groups that are spending on things that have nothing to do with the original premise. You don’t see any ads about collective bargaining. Why? Because it’s working.
