The Democratic Party of Wisconsin is not happy with Scott Walker’s Harley tour.
It’s nothing more than a taxpayer-funded joyride around the state promoting his run for governor. That’s what Democratic Party Chair Mike Tate says about Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker’s annual Milwaukee tourism campaign on his motorcycle. Tate accuses Walker of breaking campaign finance laws, and says his party will take legal action.
“We are currently working with our attorneys to explore the best options possible for prosecuting this crime.”
Milwaukee County Supervisor John Thomas says Walker has been using a combination of campaign staff and county staff to promote the tour.
“They’ve been promoting it through their blogs; they’ve been promoting it through their tweets; we’ve heard from reporters who said that they’ve gotten phone calls from the campaign.”
Tate insists it’s impossible for Walker to avoid promoting his bid for governor, considering he’s doing radio appearances throughout the state.
“Every other question is going to be about the governor’s race.”
Tate and Thomson say, as a campaign tour, Walker should use campaign dollars to pay for it.
Every year Governor Jim Doyle does his “Up North” tour, but Tate says that’s OK; as governor he has jurisdiction throughout the state.
While the Dems seek answers about the week long motorcycle tour that coincides with the Republican Party’s state convention next week, the Government Accountability Board has already given Walker clearance to do the tour.
