The governor says he’s paying attention to bigger priorities, rather than a bill that would limit the hours for in-person absentee voting.

The Senate approved the bill last week, and it’s now in the hands of the Assembly. The chamber has not yet set a date to take up the measure.

While in Green Bay Monday, Governor Scott Walker said any bill would have to meet two requirements before he would consider it. Primarily, Walker says it would have to make it easier for people to vote, but harder to cheat.

Under the proposal, weekend voting would be eliminated. During the week, the hours would be limited to between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Critics of the bill contend it’s designed to limit the ability of residents in larger cities, who tend to vote for Democrats, to cast a ballot.
