As he continues work on his proposed biennial budget, Governor Scott Walker says he’s still looking at  possible plans for the future of the University of Wisconsin System and its flagship campus.

The UW-Madison has asked in previous budget cycles to be given more autonomy from the rest of the System, including being allowed to break off on its own. Similar proposals in the past were rejected by state lawmakers.

Walker noted to reporters in Madison Monday that UW officials have indicated the split would give them more “bang for their buck” in terms of purchasing, procurement, and building projects. However, the governor declined to say whether the proposal will be included in the budget he will present to lawmakers on February 3.

Walker said he’s holding off on talking about what’s in the proposal until his work on it is complete.
