As election season picks up, Governor Scott Walker is showing a significant cash advantage over his likely Democratic opponent.
Campaign finance reports filed with the state show Walker, the Republican incumbent, raised $8.2 million between January and June, while Democrat Mary Burke raised just $3.6 million. The reports also show that Walker has more than $7.6 million on-hand, while Burke has about $2.5 million in her campaign fund.
Walker’s campaign called the numbers a sign that “there’s extraordinary enthusiasm behind Governor Walker’s campaign to continue moving Wisconsin forward.”
Burke’s campaign noted that 95 percent of the contributions she received were for $100 or less and 70 percent came from Wisconsin residents, showing strong grassroots support for her effort.
The fundraising numbers are not actually due to the state until July 21. Burke’s campaign released its report at about noon on Wednesday, with Walker’s campaign following suit about two hours later.
