Months after ending his run for the White House, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker still had a sizable amount of debt owed by his presidential campaign.
A filing with the Federal Elections Commission shows Walker ended 2015 with a campaign debt of $1.2 million. He also had about $153,000 in his campaign account, after raising just under $600,000 during the last three months of the year.
In a statement, Walker campaign spokesman said “Governor Walker made substantial progress in addressing financial commitments over the last quarter, and he remains humbled by the outpouring of support from friends across the country who continue to believe in his commonsense reform agenda.”
Walker launched his presidential bid last July and quickly was among the front runners in the race. However, his campaign started to struggle with the rapid growth, which fundraising could not keep up with.
He made the decision to end his pursuit of the Republican nomination in late September, amid falling poll numbers and the financial struggles facing his campaign.
