The latest flap in the campaign for governor centers on a trip made by Governor Scott Walker. The New York Times reported that members of the Walker administration – as well as top campaign and political advisers – attended a Republican Governors Association conference with Walker in Washington.

Walker responded to questions during a campaign event in Madison on Tuesday. “Just like Jim Doyle had people going to each of those meetings in the equivalent, we have people going to gatherings of governors . . . and the staffs that we work with,” Walker said. “They didn’t raise any money at those events, meeting with other governors and other governors staffs.”

State Democratic Party Chair Mike Tate was quick to jump on the revelation – and to suggest that his candidate would follow a higher standard. “I would be surprised if Mary Burke were to attend a Democratic governors political event, and show up with 8 to 10 senior government officials as well as cabinet secretaries,” Tate said.

Those attending the D.C. event included Walker’s Chief of Staff Eric Schutt and Deputy Chief of Staff Rich Zipperer, Secretary of Administration Mike Huebsch, along with senior advisers Eileen Schoenfeldt and Waylon Hurlburt, and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health Services Kevin Moore.
