The son of a prominent financial supporter for Republicans lost his $81,500 a year job as quickly as he got it after Democrats pointed to cronyism. Governor Scott Walker brushes off those accusations and says he ordered the demotion after it was brought to his attention that there were more qualified candidates available.

“It wasn’t because of anything wrong he did; it wasn’t because of anything that didn’t meet the mark as far as performance; it was simply because I thought there were more qualified people eligible for that position.”

After he was reassigned to his previous state job, Brian Deschane soon resigned amid controversy. The governor defends his actions, saying he continues to review positions in his Administration and moves employees around whenever necessary.

“Is there gonna be a case here or there where we find something like this? Possibly. But each and every time we’re gonna take action to make sure it’s corrected.”

The story was first reported in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which says Deschane got the gig despite no college degree and two drunken driving convictions.
