Governor Scott Walker made his first post State of the State address appearance at Stanley-Boyd Elementary School in Chippewa County Thursday morning. Walker read Dr. Suess’s “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” to around 50 third graders.
Governor Walker also talked about his “Read to Lead” initiative, aimed at improving third graders’ reading skills. Afterward, the Governor talked about being interrupted by hecklers during his speech Wednesday night. “Well you have … just as there are every year … ten seats are open to the public … and you have tickets that are available to members of the legislature, both Republicans and Democrat.” He said, “In the end, I think most people I heard from in the legislature thought that was unfortunate, in either party.”
Walker said he believed most people focused on the message, and said he learned in the state legislature, “Don’t personalize your differences. Your opponent on one issue today may be your ally tomorrow.”
