Governor Scott Walker said Tuesday that employers tell him they are frustrated with unemployed workers who prefer collecting benefits to getting a job. Some seventy protesters gathered outside a small business summit Walker attended in Green Bay. “People can be cynical and protest all they want, but we have jobs in the state, our goal is just to try to match people with the skills they need, with the jobs that are currently available,” said Walker.

The governor touted the state’s jobs portal which, he says, currently has nearly 340,000 jobs. “Many of the jobs people have talked to me about at the small business roundtables we’ve held are jobs that pay fifty, sixty, seventy-thousand dollars a year, but they need to have people with the skill set for that,” he said. “They also tell about the frustrations of dealing with the challenges of unemployment. That more often than not, that people are more willing to stay on unemployment even when jobs are available. That’s got to change.” Protestors who attempted to enter the event in the Lambeau Field Atrium were turned away.
