“Stopping the encroachment of ObamaCare in our state, which has the potential to have a devastating impact on Wisconsin’s economy, is a top priority.” That’s what Governor Scott Walker said in a statement Wednesday evening. The Republican Walker says he will not pursue the implementation of a health insurance exchange under President Obama’s healthcare law. That means Wisconsin is turning down nearly $38 million of Early Innovator Grant funds from the federal government.

Walker says during difficult economic times “it doesn’t make sense to commit to a federal health care mandate that will result in hidden taxes for Wisconsin families, increased health care costs and insurance premiums, and more uncertainty in the private sector.”

According to the statement, the Governor also will sign Executive Order 57 into law, which repeals the executive order that established the Office of Free Market Health Care.

The American Cancer Society says the decision to “halt development of affordable, accessible health care plans and to return federal dollars is a move backward.”
