The state wants the federal government to extend Wisconsin’s SeniorCare waiver. Governor Scott Walker is asking the federal government for permission to continue Wisconsin’s popular SeniorCare prescription drug program.
Walker has authorized the state Department of Health services to seek a waiver from federal rules, which would allow the program to continue beyond it scheduled expiration in December of 2012.
SeniorCare remains popular because it has no gaps in coverage and maintains low co-pays for those enrolled. Governor Walker had originally proposed scaling back the program and shifting many seniors to Medicare Part D, which critics argued would have ended up pricing many people out of coverage. The Legislature rejected that proposal earlier this year.
