Defending national champion UW-Whitewater beat Franklin 52-21 in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The Warhawks led only 21-14 at halftime, but scored five second half touchdowns to pull out the convincing win. 

Aaron Rusch had 12 receptions for 169 yards and three touchdowns and running back Levell Coppage added 134 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The No. 2-seeded Warhawks (11-0) will host Trine (11-0) in second round action at noon this Saturday.

Green Knights fall

The St. Norbert College football team was one and done in the Division III playoffs, getting blown out by North Central 57-7.

Top-seeded North Central (11-0) scored on nine straight possessions before it finally punted with just over 8-minutes left in the game. 

The Green Knights avoided the shutout by scoring a touchdown in the final minute. 

The Cardinals piled up 612 total yards from scrimmage, to 271 for the Green Knights.
