A domestic violence case that had a hearing at the State Supreme Court has come to a conclusion.
A Wausau man has pled guilty to first degree reckless injury in a 2004 attack on his ex-wife. Leonard Quintana was accused of attacking the woman with a hammer while she slept.
Prosecutors sought a stiffer penalty because it happened near a school. Quintana challenged the tougher statute all the way to the state Supreme Court, but lost.
Quintana has been in the Marathon County jail throughout the 4 year case on a million dollar cash bond.
In the plea bargain, a number of lesser charges and a mayhem enhancer were dropped. Quintana still faces up to 25 years in prison when he's sentenced in December.
