A memorial to World War Two soldiers in central Wisconsin is damaged beyond repair. Marathon County administrator Mort McBain says the 15-hundred pound stone monument will have to replaced, at a cost of more than $4,000. The monument at the county courthouse stands in honor of the 231 central Wisconsin soldiers who served in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. McBain says it means a lot to the surviving veterans. A 41-year-old Wausau man has been charged with the vandalism. Dale Dunning had to be Tased before his arrest because he threw a lit cigarette at an officer's face. McBain says Dunning should be held responsible for the cost of replacing the monument. Dunning made an initial appearance Monday and was released on a signature bond. A pre-trial hearing is set for next month.
