Wisconsin hunters killed the fewest number of deer during the nine-day gun season in 32 years, but the head of one group says that’s not too concerning.
Whitetails Unlimited President Jeff Schnkton believes the harsh winter killed a lot of deer, and it also led to many of the does who survived having fewer fawns.
“The deer have taken a hit, there’s no question about that, but we have to understand they’re not exactly an endangered species at this time yet, and if this winter can just even be normal or above normal, they’ll bounce back real quickly,” he said.
Schinkton was pleased to see that hunting license sales held relatively steady this year, which shows there’s still plenty of interest in the sport.
