The events at the Republican National Convention are being curtailed due to the storms in the gulf region. Delegate Bill Johnson of Hayward says it didn't come as a surprise as his fellow delegates had talked about the possibility late last week. He supports the decision by the RNC and the McCain camp to cut short many events, adding they're prayers are with the people in the gulf region.

The delegates are convening for required procedures to hold a convention such as electing their presidential nominee. Monday speeches are cancelled, which is dissapointing to Michael Uss from Onalaska who wanted to see President Bush.

“I would've preferred to have him come here instead of stay in Washington,” he says chuckling.

The scheduled parties are all still happening but now they are doubling as fundraisers for the Hurricane effort. McCain campaign Manager Rick Davis says five charities will each be assigned to one of the five gulf states.
