Four WIAA championship games are in the books following Thursday’s first day of action at Camp Randall Stadium.
Division 4
Senior quarterback Tyler Ledbetter scored on a five-yard run in overtime, then the defense stopped Walworth Big Foot’s two-point conversion to pull out a 35-33 overtime victory on Thursday night.
Somerset (12-1) finished in second place in the Middle Border Conference but fought back to win the school’s second state championship. Senior Vernon Breault rushed for 184 yards in the win.
Division 5
Quarterback Caleb Glennon threw for 129 yards and two touchdowns to lead Amherst to their first ever state football championship, a 19-7 win over Lancaster.
The Falcons played without injured Quarterback Chris Zblewski, the teams leading passer and rusher.
Glennon, playing in Zblewski’s place, led the Falcons on a 9-play, 66-yard touchdown drive in the 1st quarter and a 9-play, 73 yard scoring drive in the 3rd quarter.
It’s the second straight season that Lancaster has had to settle for runner-up.
Division 6
Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs senior quarterback Evan Henderson tossed two touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Ledgers beat Eau Claire Regis 24-14.
Henderson completed 14 of 17 for 144 yards, leading the Ledgers to a perfect season (13-0).
Springs jumped out to a 14-0 lead, then saw Regis score twice to tie the game. The Ledgers held the Ramblers scoreless from there.
Division 7
Junior running back Isaac Tuttle rushed for 195 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hilltoppers of Glenwood City to a 46-21 win over Potosi in the Division 7 title game.
