There were no upsets in the first round of the WIAC men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday night.
Third-seeded Eau Claire eliminated Stevens Point 72-66 as Jack Martinek scored 26 points for the Blugolds.
Number-four River Falls advanced with an 80-66 home victory over fifth-seeded Whitewater. Garret Pearson had 21 points to lead the Falcons.
The stage is now set for Friday’s semifinals. River Falls plays at top-seeded and regular season champion La Crosse, while Eau Claire heads to Oshkosh to face the second-seeded Titans.
Women resume play tonight
The WIAC women’s tournament resumes tonight with semifinal play.
Top-seeded River Falls plays host to fifth-seeded Eau Claire. Number-two Oshkosh hosts third-seeded Stevens Point with the winners to meet in the title game on Saturday.
