Ted Thompson The Green Bay Packers have eight overall picks in the seven-round NFL draft this weekend, including six in the first 135 selections.  Along with a lot of room under the salary cap, the Packers would appear to be in good position to make a deal or two, but that would be an upset.

Packers General Manager Ted Thompsn has never moved up in a draft that he's been in charge of.

Thompson said this week that he hadn't spent much time studying the top players in the draft because he doesn't anticipate moving up that high to look at the top players.

Thompson said he had been on the phones in past drafts exploring his options and more of the same is expected .

Thompson has been more likely to trade down.  Each of the last two years, Thompson has picked up more selections, which in turn has led to more players making the roster.

The draft is this Saturday and Sunday (April 26 & 27).  The Packers have the 30th overall pick in the first round and two more second round selections to cap off day one.
