Forget April showers – much of Wisconsin is bracing for significant snow. “It’s going to be wet snow,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Stewert in Duluth. “It’s going to make driving really difficult.” The National Weather Service in Green Bay predicts six inches of snow is possible over much of northern and central Wisconsin. Lesser amounts are anticipated over north central Wisconsin further away from the storm system. “It should start after noon today and continue through tonight and the overnight,” said Pete Petoniak, meteorologist with WLUK TV in Green Bay. “Heaviest snow will probably come down midnight to 6:00 a.m. ”

There’s the potential snow amounts could approach 8 inches over parts of central and northeast Wisconsin, including portions of the state which were hit by tornadoes a little over a week ago. “That’s where the axis of the heavier snow is going to be,” said Stewert with NWS. “Unfortunately those people are going to feel the brunt of it.” In addition to the snow, strong northeast winds are expected this afternoon and tonight, which could cause damage to trees and power lines.
