A Kenosha area Democrat is questioning the validity of the recall petitions, now that organizers claim they’ve reached the 13,000 signature threshold needed to force a recall. “There were people down there that were folding over the recall petition so you couldn’t see ‘recall Wirch’ and saying ‘you want to support Bob Wirch, sign here.’ There’ some real questions about the validity of a lot of the signatures,” Senator Robert Wirch of Pleasant Prairie told reporters at the Capitol on Tuesday.

The Group Taxpayers to Recall Wirch announced Monday that they’d collected the 13,000 signatures and that they intend to push on and collect 18,000 signatures. Wirch said he has questions. “We’d like to know who’s paying for these people coming in from out of state,” he said. “We’ve seen people from South Dakota and Florida, California. Who’s paying for these people?”

Wirch is the second of the targeted Senators for whom enough signatures have been gathered to force a recall – organizers seeking to oust La Crosse Republican Dan Kapanke turned their’s in the Government Accountability Board last week.
