An Edgerton woman can now say her dog competed in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City. Sandra Kraft says Alec, her Irish Setter, is a champion but didn't make the cut for Best in Breed.

The Best in Breed winners go to compete against other breeds in their group. The Best in Show is then chosen. That honor went to another Wisconsin dog . A 10-year-old Sussex spaniel named Stump became the oldest dog to win the Best in Show award. One of Sussex's handlers, 16-year-old Dylan Kipp of Union Grove was awarded Best Junior Handler; she competed against about 100 others. Her 12-year-old sister, Devon Kipp, took fourth in the same category.

The Westminster has gained popularity in recent years. Kraft adds the televised event is just one of multiple competitions that weekend leading up to the big show.
